Vincent Peet:
Driving Progress One Step At A Time

Under the representation of the Hon. Vincent Peet, North Andros and the Berry Islands are experiencing a renaissance in their respective economies with numerous improvements in the islands' communities over the past five years.

Born in Stafford Creek, Minister Peet has a genuine commitment to
improving the lives of Androsians and Berry Islanders, spending much of his time on the ground helping to drive the progress.

Despite his tremendous responsibilities as a minister in the Cabinet of the Rt. Honourable Perry G. Christie, Minister Peet remains focused on bringing development to his constituency through driving infrastructure improvements and helping to promote greater economic opportunities for the people of North Andros and the Berry Islands.

There have been substantial improvements to North Andros schools with completed repairs and new buildings totaling nearly $2 million.

The constituency has witnessed widespread progress marked by - among other achievements - the opening of a clinic in Stanyard Creek; the opening of the BAIC Office, Handicraft and Museum Centre; the introduction of BTVI classes in North Andros High; construction of buildings to house cassava waxing and onion drying machines; the purchase of multi-trucks to transport agricultural produce to the packing house; repairs to a building at BARC to house the pilot programme of the Agricultural Centre; construction of a modern solid waste disposal site, and the upgrade to all ball parks on North Andros.

But there is much more on the drawing board, including a planned airport terminal to be constructed at a cost of $108,000, and construction of a new subdivision with 90 homes at a cost of $516,000.

With all the completed projects and projects about to start, North Andros contractors have benefited from contracts in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

North Andros will soon see the construction of a new mini hospital, all docks will be repaired, and a new Lowe Sound Primary School will be completed.

In the Berry Islands, attention has and will continue to be given to the R. N. Gomez All Age School, where facilities will be upgraded to ensure the infrastructure is in place to prepare students to meet the demands of the expanding economy (i.e. the Chub Cay expansion, the Coco Cay redevelopment, and the construction of second homes by winter residents).

During the Christie Administration's second term in office, Minister Peet pledges to continue the development started to prepare North Andros, in particular, to take full advantage of the development of the new $200 million shipping port that will be developed in Western New Providence; to expand the presence of the College of The Bahamas in North Andors; to expand in a meaningful way agricultural development following on the new 200 acre training farm at BARC North Andros, and to further strengthen the educational, vocational and technical training system to prepare all North Androsians for the future development that must come.

And the Berry Islands will not be left out as citizens there will continued to be economically empowered to remain at home and assist in the building of their economy.

Minister Peet urges all living and working in North Andros and the Berry Islands to seize expanding opportunities as they work to build even more progressive and dynamic communities. back to top
